Understanding the Parts
- Male vs Female: The terms refer to the internal metal contacts, not the plastic housing. The male connector features a protruding pin, while the female has a receptacle socket to receive it.
- Polarity: On pre-wired solar panels, the male connector is generally associated with the positive wire (red), while the female connector is used for the negative wire (black).
Assembly & Installation
- Strip the Wire: Expose about 10–12mm of the copper core on your PV wire
- Crimp the Terminal: Use a specialized solar crimping tool to firmly secure the metal pin to the stripped wire
- Seal the Housing: Slide the crimped wire into the plastic housing until you hear a clear "click". Hand-tighten the back cap, and use MC4 spanner/disconnect tools to securely compress the waterproof seal
